The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCEDS), also known as Rio + 20, was a conference held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, whose objective was to discuss the renewal of the political commitment to sustainable development taking place between 13 and June 22, 2012. The event was attended by heads of state and government from 188 nations (of which 185 out of 193 UN member countries, as well as representatives of the Vatican, Palestine and the European Community) who reiterated their commitments to the sustainability of development, especially with regard to the way in which the planet’s natural resources are being used.
